A sink strainer is a simple, effective and low cost way to prevent solid items like hair and food waste from going down the plughole and potentially leading to blockages. We recommend stainless steel as they will be more durable and easy to clean (most can simply go in the dishwasher).
Avoid putting the meat fats, cooking oil, dairy produce, sauces and food scraps down the sink.
Put coffee granules in the bin or on the garden (they make great compost and apparently deter slugs and snails too).
Allow grease, oily food waste and cooking oil to cool and then pour or scrape into a container before throwing it in the waste bin.
Scrape utensils and plates before washing them (or loading into the dishwasher) and dispose of the waste in your household rubbish.
Avoid putting grease, oil and fat down your waste disposal unit.
